BENTON — The Benton City Council approved a four-year electric supply agreement from Affordable Gas and Electric at Monday night’s meeting.

Rob Wielt, Benton’s broker/consultant with A-G-E, presented the council with information on indicative pricing from four electric retail suppliers – AEP Energy, Constellation, Homefield Energy and Direct Energy Business.

Wielt says the city’s current contact with Homefield and Constellation ends in January and now is a great time to renew because A-G-E knows where prices are in the electric supply market now and they won’t know where they will be in the fall.

The city currently pays $0.04889 cents per kilowatt hour for power from Constellation on the city’s 24 commercial properties and $0.04201 cents per kilowatt hour for power from Homefield Energy for street lighting.

Wielt recommended to the council a 48-month contract from Homefield Energy where the city will pay $0.04003 cents per kilowatt hour for street lighting and $0.04605 cents per kilowatt hour for the city’s 24 commercial accounts.

The council unanimously approved Wielt’s recommendation.
