Artie L. “Lamar” Johnson, 78, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 10:50 A.M.May 1, 2019 at Nature Trail Nursing Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born September 20, 1940 in Waldo, Arkansas to the late Arvie L. Johnson and Ruth Velma (Dixon) Johnson. He first married Anne Johnson. He later married Patricia A. Johnson.

 

Lamar is survived by hisson, Kenneth Johnson and wife, Lettie of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter, Robbin Lynn Goff and husband, Tommy of Kinmundy, Illinois; Five stepdaughters, Clara Johnson and Beth Ann Hall, both of Alma, Illinois, Nary Jane Speakman and husband, Jr. of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Sue Ann Lang of Centralia, Illinois, and Shirley Hemminger of Indianapolis, Indiana; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Billy Mack Johnson and wife, Ruth of Waldo, Arkansas; three sisters, Mary Winsett of Rockford, Illinois, Alice Fay Stubblefield of Willisville, Arkansas, and Nancy Martin and husband, John of Rockford, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Lamar was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; two sisters, Betty Ann Kelley and Bonnie Ray; stepson, Robert G. Johnson; and two brothers-in-laws, Ham Winsett and Travis Kelley.

 

Lamar proudly served the United States Navy. He attended Mount Vernon Baptist Temple. Lamar worked a Semi Truck Driver. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

 

Per Lamar’s request, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
