KELL, IL — The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is saying an attempted abduction near the Kell Park and school on Easter weekend didn’t happen.

Detectives in the case say interviews with nearby residents and footage from video surveillance cameras revealed the allegations of an attempted abduction were false.

Earlier reports indicated 18-year-old Ashley Kemmerling of Benton reported an unknown male approached her and offered her a ride while she was playing with some younger family members.

Kemmerling said that when she refused, the man grabbed her arm and attempted to pull her toward his truck.

The case will be presented to the State’s Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution.
