MARION COUNTY — Authorities have returned a 44-year-old Chicago Heights man from Coles County to Marion County, where he’s charged with the September 2018 murder of a Centralia woman in her Anderson Street home.
Lorenzo Patton had been held in the Coles County Jail since January on an unrelated felony battery charge for allegedly stabbing another man.
Patton was indicted Friday by a Marion County grand jury for the September 2018 murder of Precious Jones. His bail has been set in Marion County court at $2 million.
According to the indictment, Patton shot Jones twice – once in the back and once in the chest — and in so doing so either intended to kill or do great bodily harm or knew such an act would cause Jones’ death.
She was found dead in the early morning hours of September 22, by a person entering her home in the 400 block of Anderson Street in Centralia.
