MARION/JEFFERSON COUNTIES — A 34-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested early Tuesday morning, after leading Marion County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed pursuit on Route 161.

According to reports, around 1 a.m., deputies attempted to stop Brandon Barnett for alleged speeding near Interstate 57.

Rather than stopping, Barnett reportedly accelerated and entered southbound I-57 at speeds reaching 90 miles per hour.

He ultimately stopped just south of Dix where he was taken into custody on charges of driving while license suspended, speeding, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
