CENTRALIA — An Easter morning fire that damaged a vacant home in the 1400 block of South Elm in Centralia is being called suspicious.
Centralia firefighters say evidence was found at the scene indicating the fire may hae been set.
A passing motorist alerted authorities around 7:18 Sunday morning after spotting smoke and possible flames coming from the home.
Upon their arrival, firefighters reportedly found the fire in the living room, and were able to quickly knock down the flames. However, heavy damage was reported to the living room, along with smoke and heat damage throughout the home.
All available city firefighters were called to the scene, with Centralia Fire Protection District providing mutual assistance and Sandoval firefighters covering the Centralia fire station.
The State Fire Marshal’s office was called to further investigate the cause of the fire.
While the home was reportedly vacant, it was still full of furniture and clothing. Neighbors reported seeing people coming and going out of the home. While the doors were locked, some of the windows were reportedly open.
