MT. VERNON — The city of Mt. Vernon is once again giving away free trees to some city residents in correlation with Arbor Day. The city is partnering with Ameren Illinois to sponsor the Annual Free Tree Giveaway. The event is part of Ameren’s Right Tree, Right Place program which helps to inform homeowners about any future issues a young tree may cause once it is mature.

Jennifer Morgan with the Mt. Vernon Parks and Recreation Department says the department will be giving away a type of tree that was given away a few years ago through the program.

Parks and Recreation staff will be distributing the reserved trees at the Rolland Lewis Building on April 27. To reserve your tree, call the park off at 242-6890 on Tuesday, April 23 starting at 8 a.m. Reservations will be taken until noon or until all trees have been reserved that day.
