SOUTHERN ILLINOIS — A Johnston City woman has been charged in a one-count indictment with conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
U.S. Attorney Steven Weinhoeft announce Monday that the federal indictment alleges 37-year-old Cari L. Madson committed the offense between February 2018 and January 2019 in Williamson and Jefferson counties.
Madson made her initial appearance in federal court on March 11 and pleaded not guilty to the charges. She was ordered held without bond pending trial, which is currently scheduled for May 13, 2019.
The drug offenses carry a maximum penalty of 5 to 40 years in prison, four years of supervised release and a $5 million fine.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Southern Illinois Enforcement Group. The Herrin Police Department, Marion Police Department and Johnston City Police Department also assisted in the investigation.
