JACKSON COUNTY — One person died in a fiery crash early Friday morning in Jackson County.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies along with Illinois State Police and the Du Quoin Police Department Responded to a report of a single vehicle traffic crash on West Road north of Dowell around 2:10 a.m. The vehicle was reported to be on fire and a person was trapped inside.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle was going south on West Road, left the roadway and struck the bridge guardrail. The driver of the vehicle was trapped, and the vehicle caught fire. The Jackson County Coroner pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The driver’s identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
The Dowell Fire Department, Elkville Fire Department and Du Quoin Fire Department assisted on scene.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the crash.
