Franklin County leaders are still trying to decide what to do with the old County Annex building on West Main in Benton.

Several county offices were moved from there to the renovated Campbell Building last year because of safety concerns and other problems at the former annex building.

County Board Chairman Randall Crocker says it will cost $80,000 to have the old annex torn down, which the county currently can’t afford. The county applied for a USDA grant last year to get the money but was denied because the grant had been discontinued.

Crocker says another idea was brought up for the site during last week’s County Board meeting.

Crocker did say that a grant has been found where money would be available for the business incubator and within that grant, money would be available to tear down the old annex and build the business incubator.

Crocker says nothing definite has been decided yet as to what to do with the property, but he still wants to see the building torn down and cleaned up.
