Three semis were involved in a crash that killed one semi driver around 2:20 Thursday afternoon on I-57 in Union County.
According to Illinois State Police, a semi driven by 60-year-old Lester C. Barr was going north on I-57 at milepost 33 as another semi driven by 67-year-old Philip R. Lawrence was trying to make a left turn west into the center median turnaround.
Barr’s semi struck the left rear of Lawrence’s semi with the right front of the semi. Barr then traveled through the center median into the southbound lanes striking another semi head on driven by 40-year-old Brian E. Breedlove.
Barr died at the scene. Breedlove was taken by ambulance to Union County Hospital in Anna for minor injuries. No information was available concerning Lawrence.
Lawrence and Breedlove were wearing seat belts, while it was not known is Barr was wearing his seat belt.
