Vickie Lynn (Toal) Phelps, 59, of Opdyke, Illinoispassed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 20, 2018. Vickie was born on September 22, 1959 to Patricia M. and John R. Toal.She married Kenneth D. Phelps on May 28, 1994.They celebrated 24 years together.
Vickie was survived by her husband, Kenneth of Opdyke; daughter, Bethany Marie Phelps of Opdyke; grandchildren, Cayden M. Belmont and Brianna M. Belmont; mother, Patricia M. Toal; sister, Charlene P. and husband,Ricky of Tennessee; brother, Sean R. Toal and wife, Barbie of Colorado; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doris and Dean Phelps; siblings-in-law, Teresa Phelps, Jerrell and Jean Phelps, Joyce and David Pitts, and Debbie and George Bryant; nieces and nephews, Heather Webb, Brett Anderson, Brandon Anderson, Channing Toal, and other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Evelyn and Gary Shelton.
Vickie was preceded in death by her father, John R.Toal; mother-in-law, Louise Phelps; brother-in-law, Marvin Phelps; aunts, Sister Richard Marie Toal (The Fishing Nun), Sister Adele Marie Toal; and uncle, Frank Florence.
Vickie loved her family and found strength through her faith in God. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and Gam. She loved to work on crafts, scrapbooking, journaling, music, swimming, the Cardinals and drinking coffee. Vickie worked for Dr. Hoffman as a Lab Tech for many years and was lovingly referred to as “Vickie the Vampire” by many patients. She was a valuable volunteer for Red Cross.Vickie participated in 34 deployments starting with Hurricane Katrina. She opened shelters for Red Cross before and after disaster struck. Vickie was assigned as the first point of contact for families after devastating fires. Vickie loved helping others and had a sweet compassionate spirit.She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
A Visitation will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Connexions Church in Mount Vernon. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 P.M. withReverend Matt Griswold officiating. Memorials may be made in Vickie’s honor to the Phelps family, in care of Kenneth Phelps.
