Felony drug charges against a 60-year-old Mt. Vernon man were dismissed Wednesday in Jefferson County Court, but Eddie G. Bennett remains in the Jefferson County Jail still facing charges in two more recent drug-related cases.
Bennett was facing charges of Class 1 felony possession of heroin with the intent to deliver and Class 3 felony being a felon in possession of firearm for a 2016 case. Those charges were dismissed Wednesday.
After being arrested and charged in that case, Bennett was arrested in June after the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team served a narcotics search warrant at Bennett’s Conger Avenue home.
The warrant was issued as a result of investigations by the Narcotics Division into the sale of heroin.
Bennett was located inside the home once entry was made, as was multiple quantities of heroin packaged for delivery.
He was charged in that case with a Class 1 felony charge of manufacturing with the intent to deliver between 1 and 15 grams of heroin and then earlier this month he was charged in a separate case with Class 1 felony distribution of narcotics near a protected structure. Both cases remain outstanding.
