A man accused of beating an Illinois Department of Children and Family Services investigator has asked for a mental evaluation.

Sauk Valley Media reports the attorney of Andrew Sucher of Rock Falls filed a motion Monday seeking the examination. A hearing is Friday.

The 25-year-old Sucher is accused of beating an investigator in September as she was trying to take custody of a child.

The investigator was seriously injured, with a skull fracture that left her in a coma. She’s now recovering at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Sucher has pleaded not guilty to aggravated battery and other charges in Carroll County.

A judge has set a tentative Jan. 30 trial.

Sucher has also pleaded guilty to charges in Whiteside County, including aggravated battery of a child and domestic battery.
