A 21-year-old Mt. Vernon man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to obstructing justice in connection with the January shooting death of DeAndray Jackson.

Per his guilty plea, Dantrez Brown admitted he lied to police about seeing co-defendant John Wells near the scene of the shooting.

Brown still faces charges of murder, attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery in the case, as well as unrelated charges pertaining to a 2016 attempted burglary, and an unrelated 2016 case in Marion County charging him with cannabis and weapons charges.

Brown was one of eight men charged in connection with Jackson’s January 20, shooting death in the 1800 block of Conger Avenue.

In addition to Brown, Wells, Tony Feggins, and Lamar Williams Jr., have been indicted for murder for Jackson’s death.
Lekedrieon Russell, Curtis Devan Jr., and Deon Frazier have pleaded guilty to lesser charges in exchange for testifying against the other co-defendants.

If they don’t testify, they can still be prosecuted on murder and robbery charges. Jarron Liddell also entered a plea agreement requiring him to testify but murder and robbery charges against him have already been dismissed.

Brown is scheduled to be tried first on the 2016 burglary charges. Liddell has already pleaded guilty to attempted residential burglary as a co-defendant in that same case, with sentencing pending.

Brown is next scheduled for a February 14 pre-trial conference.
