MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon Township High School’s Board of Education adopted a budget for the 2018 fiscal year during Monday’s meeting.

The budget has a projected deficit of $505,446. A new state funding formula could result in enough additional state aid annually to eliminate the deficit and possible leave a small surplus. MVTHS hopes for an additional $567,000 from the state.

Since that number is not a guarantee the district chose to leave it out of the budget.

Deficit spending is expected in the school’s Education, Debt Service, Capital Projects, Operations & Maintenance, and Municipal Retirement/Social Securty funds.

Other action taken by the board included:
Approval of the annual Recognition of Schools application;
Adoption of the 2018 budget for the Area Vocational Center;
and hired Jacqueline Danzer as a FCCLA co-sponsor.
