MT. VERNON — Another chapter of the DeAndray Jackson murder case came to a close in Jefferson County Court on Friday after a Springfield man pleaded guilty to his role in the robberty attempt.
19-year-old Deon L. Frazier was facing murder and attempted robbery charges related to the Jan. 20 robbery and shooting. Jackson was shot during the robbery attempt.
Frazier pleaded guilty to a Class 1 Felony charge of attempted home invasion, punishable by four to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Per the plea deal, Frazier must testify against others accused in the homicide. Once he does the murder charges against him will be dropped.
The other men facing charges in Jackson’s murder are Lamar Williams, Jr., John Wells, Lekedrieon Russell, Dantrez Brown, Jarron Liddell, and Tony Feggins.
Another man indicted for the murder, Curtis Devan, Jr., has already pleaded guilty to obstructing justice and later sentenced to 27 months in prison.
A status hearing has been set for Oct. 17 at 11 a.m.
