MT. VERNON — A Mt. Vernon man was seriously injured Wednesday night when his tractor-trailer struck several trees and overturned near the Interstates 57 and 64 Interchange just north of Mt. Vernon.

45-year-old Roger Modglin was traveling northbound on Interstate 57 and had exited onto the I-64 westbound ramp.  For unknown reasons, the semi traveled off the right side of the roadway through the grass, and eventually crossed the I-64 westbound ramp from I-57 south.  The semi continued a short distance until it struck several trees before overturning and coming to a rest at 6:26 p.m.

Modglin was transported to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, but was later airlifted to a St. Louis-area hospital.

The crash is still under investigation but is believed to be medical related.
