JEFFERSON COUNTY — A three vehicle collision on Interstate 64 in Jefferson County left four people injured. The accident occurred at 4:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-64 near milepost 67.
35-year-old Emily Stone of Evansville, Ind. was reportedly traveling westbound when she lost control of her Honda SUV due to speed and heavy rainfall. The Honda traveled through the median and into the eastbound lanes of traffic striking the rear end of a semi-trailer driven by 49-year-old Darby Key of Fort Payne, Ala. Stone’s SUV then went spinning into the front end of a transit bus driving by 38-year-old Kim Graves of Gulfport, Miss.
Stone and her two juvenile passengers were transported to SSM Health/Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon with serious injuries while Graves was also transported to the same hospital with minor injuries. Key was uninjured.
Stone was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
Both eastbound lanes of the Interstate were closed for about 45 minutes whenever one lane was re-opened. At approximately 7:00 p.m. both lanes of I-64 were re-opened.
