(SALEM, IL) — A 25-year-old Wamac man has been sentenced to 4-years in prison after he pleaded guilty Wednesday in Marion County Court to the lesser of two meth-related charges against him. Cody Matson pleaded guilty to Class 3 felony possession of less than 5-grams of methamphetamine in exchange for the Class 1 felony delivery of between 5 and 15 grams of meth charge being dismissed. Matson was arrested in March 2016 after Centralia police reportedly found he possessed approximately 6 grams meth in two separate baggies. While Matson had been charged with a Class 1 felony, which is punishable by between 4 and 15 years in prison, his prior criminal history made him eligible for Class X felony sentencing, which would have allowed for between 6 and 30 years in prison if had been convicted on that charge.
