(CARBONDALE, IL) — The Carbondale Fire Department is warning residents about a possible impersonation scam circulating throughout the community. According to Carbondale Public Relations Officer Amy Fox, a resident recently reported receiving a call from a person who claimed to work for the Carbondale Fire Department. The caller wanted to know if the resident had a smoke detector, fire extinguisher and escape plan. Residents are reminded that firefighters do not call homeowners and try to sell them anything. If you receive a call like this, contact the Carbondale Police Department at 457-3200. Fox says you should never give out any personal information over the phone such as credit or debit card number. When in doubt, hang up.
