(SALEM, IL) — Bail was set at $500,000 Wednesday for a 35-year-old Iuka man who was the subject of a nearly 2-day manhunt this week in Marion County. Jason White was formally charged in Marion County Court Wednesday with Class X felony home invasion and Class 1 felony residential burglary in connection with an alleged incident Sunday afternoon at a home near Cartter. White is accused of entering the occupied home where he took a handgun belonging to the homeowner and ultimately pointing that gun at the homeowner. White subsequently gave the handgun back to the homeowner and fled the home on foot and headed south. White was located at a home in Centralia Tuesday morning and was taken into custody without incident. While he was not in possession of a weapon at the time of his arrest, authorities were unsure if he was armed at the time of the manhunt and had cautioned the public that he could be armed and dangerous. At the time of his arrest, White, a convicted sex offender, was wanted on outstanding warrants in Richland, Effingham, and Marion Counties. He is next scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on March 28, for a first appearance with his court appointed attorney.
