(NASHVILLE, IL) — A 45-year-old Nashville man is in the Washington County Jail following his arrest Monday on a warrant accusing him of the sexual assault of a woman with the use of a controlled substance. Dennis L. Johnston was formally charged Monday in Washington County Court with Class X felony aggravated criminal sexual assault by drugging the victim with controlled substances. Nashville Police Chief Brian Fletcher says the investigation into the case is ongoing, but the warrant was secured after the initial investigation indicated Johnston forced the alleged victim to ingest a controlled substance against her will and then to perform a sex act on him. The warrant was issued Monday with bail set at $100,000 or 10-percent cash bond. Johnston was arrested a short time later and pleaded not guilty to the charge. An investigation into Johnston’s criminal history was filed with the court Monday. It dates back to 1988 when he was just 17 and includes numerous drug-related felonies. Johnston was appointed a public defender to represent him and is next scheduled in court March 30 for a preliminary hearing.
