(MARION, IL) — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that happened at the Pit Stop Bar, located at 8082 Route 37 in Marion, Wednesday night. According to a sheriff’s office report, a call came into the sheriff’s office at 9:40 p.m. about shots being fired inside the bar. Sheriff’s deputies along with Marion Police officers responded to the bar. When officers arrived, they discovered that the suspect had fled the bar on foot after one round was fired inside the bar; however the suspect fired two more rounds into the building from outside after he exited the bar. The alleged suspect is described as a black male, standing 5’9” tall with an average build. He was wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and carrying a camouflage backpack. He was last seen running north along the railroad tracks towards Marion and not located. The suspect was not known by any customers inside the bar. Witnesses stated that the suspect was inside the bar for about 10 minutes and kept the hood up on his sweatshirt the entire time. The suspect was asked to stop banging on the side of a video gaming machine with his hand. The suspect then reached into the backpack he was carrying and the gun fired striking another customer. The victim – a 29-year-old male – had been shot in the lower leg and transported himself to the hospital where he was treated and released. Video surveillance is currently being reviewed by Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Investigators. At this time, there is not a clear image of the suspect.
