(CHESTER, IL) — Menard Correctional Center was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon, following a situation in the yard involving more than 100 inmates. According to Illinois Department of Corrections Spokeswoman Nichole Wilson, “Menard Correctional Center is on lockdown as the IDOC investigates an incident that occurred on the yard. All offenders are secured and accounted for.” An AFSCME representative tells Withers Broadcasting that the incident involved approximately 150 inmates who refused to leave the yard for several hours Thursday afternoon.
