(SALEM, IL) — A 20-year-old Centralia man has been formally charged in Marion County court with felony domestic battery after he allegedly attacked a woman while riding in her car. Jacob A. Cranford is charged with Class 2 felony aggravated domestic battery with the use of strangling and misdemeanor criminal damage to property. According to Centralia police, a woman was giving Cranford a ride and when she refused to take him to a fast food restaurant on the west side of Centralia he began choking her and punching her in the head. The woman then pulled her vehicle over and told Cranford to get out. Once out of the vehicle he reportedly began kicking the car, which damaged the vehicle. Bail for Cranford was set Tuesday at $15,000 and he was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim. A preliminary hearing in the case has been scheduled for March 14 with Cranford’s court appointed attorney.
