(MT. VERNON, IL) — Two Mt. Vernon area homes were destroyed by separate fires Friday, and a firefighter was injured at one scene. According to fire officials, the first fire was reported Friday afternoon at a home in the 12000 block of Bunny Farm Road. The home was completely involved when firefighters arrived and was too far gone to be saved. The second fire was reported late Friday night in the 10000 block of North Garfield Road. One person in the home escaped wearing only a small amount of clothing and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of exposure. A firefighter on the scene was also taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was released after receiving stitches for a facial injury after he was struck in the face by a nozzle while pulling a fire hose. The causes of both fires remain under investigation.
