(BENTON, IL) — The Benton City Council took no action Monday night on a request by Public Health and Safety Commissioner Don Storey to purchase a new ladder fire truck for the fire department. The fire department’s current ladder truck is not able to be used at this time because the hydraulic system needs to be fixed. Storey told council members it would cost $54,000 including labor to have it repaired. Storey presented to the council a quote of $625,000 for a new ladder truck from Smell Fire Apparatus and two leasing packages for it. He also noted that since the loan is about to be paid off on one of the current fire trucks, could the money being used to pay that loan go to pay for a new truck. He says the payment would be about the same. The council agreed to look at Storey’s proposal more before any decision is made.
