(Chicago, IL) — The budget crisis is causing some serious problems in Illinois prisons. The “Sun Times” reports that the state owes over 32-million-dollars in utility bills for all of its 43 facilities. The Menard Correctional Center in Chester hasn’t had its water, sewer and gas bills paid since September. House Republican Leader Jim Durkin says if a stopgap budget isn’t approved by July 1 there can be some dangerous conditions in the state’s prison.
