(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Mt. Vernon City Council is due to meet this evening. Among items on a busy agenda, the council will hear permission to seek bids for a lawn mower and for the North 27th Street Reconstruction project, a second reading from the city attorney for an ordinance authorizing the sale of surplus municipal property, a resolution donating a fire pumper truck to Mt. Vernon Township High School District #201, a resolution requesting IDOT approve temporary closures of westbound Illinois Route 15 from Marlow Road to the junction of Illinois Route 15 and Old Route 15 for the purpose of “Salute To Freedom” Fireworks on July 4, 2016, a resolution approving an agreement with IDOT for the Fairfield Road resurfacing project, and a motion directing the City Manager to draft an ordinance amending “Open Burning” to allow 8 days a year for landscape waste burning. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building.
