(Swansea, IL) — A retired East St. Louis police captain is dead after authorities say he was accidentally shot. Sherman Jumper of Swansea, Illinois was in his garage Wednesday when he dropped a bag. A gun inside the bag went off, hitting him in the head. Jumper served in the police department for nearly three decades.
