(BENTON, IL) — The Franklin County State’s Attorney’s office has formally charged a Vandalia couple for their role in an alleged stabbing that took place Sunday at a home located in the 1600 block of West Road in West Frankfort. Officials say 22-year-old Logan Cook and his wife, 23-year-old Kelsey Cook, were taken into custody in the 200 block of North Horrell Avenue Sunday and charged with aggravated battery in the stabbing of 39-year-old Eric Hayes and 27-year-old Renee Stilley. Three others, 23-year-old Chance Pauls and 21-year-old Seth Murphy – both from West Frankfort and 23-year-old Cody Grove of Mulkeytown – were also taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery. They were then released. Police say those three, along with Logan and Kelsey Cook, were allegedly involved in a fight at a local tavern and ended it at the home on West Road. Officials say Hayes and Stilley are expected to fully recover. The Cooks are lodged in the Franklin County Jail. The state’s attorney’s office says the investigation continues and more charges could be filed.
