Gerre Arney, 90, of Centralia, passed away July 24, 2024 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

She was born in Benton, Illinois on December 20, 1933 to Lester and Grace (Wilkerson) Huffstutler. She married Ward Gunter in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1974. She later married Robert Arney and he preceded her in death in June, 2017.

Gerre is survived by eight grandchildren, Jeff Wright, Jeremy Wright, Traci Miller, Billy Sponseller, Angel Gunter, Doug Gunter II, Dustin Gunter and Dakota Gunter; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren and several step-children; one sister, Carolyn Sue Barmore; a son-in-law, Bill Sponseller and several nieces, nephews & many loving family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Cheryl Wright and Rita Sponseller; a son, Doug Gunter; two brothers, Ferrell Huffstutler and Audrey Huffstutler and a sister, Vivian Hutchins.

Gerre loved to cook and sew and ran a restaurant in Elgin, Illinois for many years.

A Graveside Service will be held August 1, 2024 at 10:00am at Gilead Cemetery in Dix, Illinois with Pastor Don Smith officiating.
