MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Police are investigating a Tuesday afternoon shooting that sent one adult male to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Robert Brands, they received notice of a subject with gunshot wounds brought into the Emergency Room of a local hospital.
Initial investigation into the incident indicated it occurred around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon in an alley in the 2000 block of Logan in Mt. Vernon.

Chief Brands says they developed two persons of interest — one an adult male and the other a juvenile male — and quickly detained the adult. Police continue to search for the juvenile subject.

The investigation is ongoing and the identities of those involved are not being released at this time; however, booking reports show 18-year-old Gabriel Ellinger was booked into the Jefferson County Jail around four hours after the incident on charges of aggravated battery through the discharge of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.
