WAYNE CITY, Ill. — Marty Ray Rawls, 63, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Marty was born on November 3, 1960 in Mt. Vernon, IL to Gerald Ray Rawls and Linda (Smith) Sallee.  On September 14, 1988 he married Janean (Peddicord) Rawls, who survives.

Marty worked for many years in the oil fields as a driller, tool pusher, and various other positions.  He had also worked as a bulldozer operator, a farmer, and started a trucking business for the logging industry.  He was a member of the Church of the Harvest in Wayne City.

Marty loved to work, and he was an outdoorsman.  He loved fishing, hunting, horseback riding, mushroom hunting, camping, arrowhead hunting, and boating.  He loved to collect many things, but he especially enjoyed collecting pocket knives.  He loved life, and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Marty is survived by his wife Janean Rawls of Wayne City, his mother Linda Sallee of Wayne City, his father-in-law & mother-in-law: Steve & Sharon Peddicord; 5 daughters: Amber (Dave) Holman of Broken Arrow, OK; Leslie (Jason) Surratt of Wayne City, Michelle (Robert) Reid of Johnsonville, IL; Megan (Josh) Foley of Wayne City, and Rachel (Connor) Withrow of Wayne City; a son Gerald Rawls (and significant other Kalynn Bargh) of Cisne, IL; 16 grandchildren: Cole Fleet, Kaley Surratt, Austin Surratt, Jayden Surratt, Aubrey Surratt, Allison Reid, McKinley Reid, Chance Foley, Jaxon Foley, Beck Foley, Cade Withrow, Harley Rawls, Marley Rawls, Raeley Rawls, Archer Rawls, Fletcher Rawls, 1 expecting granddaughter, 1 expecting great granddaughter, 4 sisters: Tina (Barney) Ottema of New Castle, WY; Sheila Delarosa of New Castle, WY; Stacy Griffith of Wayne City, and Misty Griffith of Highland, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Gerald Ray Rawls, his stepfather Kenny Sallee, and a grandson Coleton Foley.

Funeral services for Marty Ray Rawls will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Church of the Harvest in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Lathan Musgrave officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Church of the Harvest.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Bailey Cemetery in Wayne City.
